It’s that time of year again! You may want to consider making these treats instead of (or as well as) buying Halloween candy. Get together with your kids and make these easy and delicious treats for your family’s Halloween party.
First up: Oreo Eyeballs
SUPPLIES
OREO chocolate sandwich cookies – no need for Double Stuff, just regular will do.
Blue and Green gel decorating gel – I used standard gel, but you could use the sparkle gel too.
Red gel food coloring – you could use the gel for this also, the color just might not be as intense.
Black/brown M&Ms or Reeses pieces
Small paintbrush – a little bigger than a toothpick, but not much. You can use a regular paintbrush, but a “food safe” brush is best.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Carefully remove one of the chocolate cookies from the OREO. You will end up with chocolate smudges on the frosting, that’s perfectly fine. Leave it be, don’t try to clean it up.. it will just make a mess.
- Add a glob (very scientific measurement) of gel icing.
- Place 1 M&M in the center of the icing.
- Put a small dab of red food coloring in a bowl or on a plate, like a painter’s palette. Using a teeny tiny paint brush, carefully paint red vein lines on the white frosting of the OREO.

Next up: Halloween Monster Mouths
SUPPLIES
Apples
Peanut Butter (or your favourite nut butter)
Lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
For the “teeth” you can use many different things including, peeled almonds, mini marshmallows, jelly beans, candy corn, yogurt covered raisins and more.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Slice the apples into pieces that look like lips (just a standard slice will work)
- Place the sliced apples in a bowl or lemon water for about 10-15 minutes so they don’t brown
- Heavily spread peanut butter on the tops of each apple slice
- Stick the “teeth” into the peanut butter so it sticks…I like to put these in sorta crooked so they look scarier.
- Then stick 2 of them together (one side with teeth and one without).
- Enjoy!

Next: Frozen “Boo”nana Pops
SUPPLIES
1 medium banana
1 cup good quality white chocolate
8 mini chocolate chips for eyes
4 popsicle sticks
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cut banana in half lengthwise, then in half to make four quarters. Insert popsicle sticks into bananas, and freeze bananas on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.
- When the bananas are frozen, fill a coffee mug with chocolate. Melt chocolate in the microwave 30 seconds at a time, stirring until the chocolate is melted and soft.
- Dip the bananas one at a time into the chocolate, scraping off the excess chocolate from the back of the banana, and place it on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper.
- Quickly add the chocolate chips for the eyes before the chocolate hardens (you have to work quickly here).
- Return to the freezer until frozen and ready to eat. Eat frozen.

And finally: Pumpkin Krispies Treats
½ tsp. vanilla extract
red & yellow food coloring or orange gel coloring
5-1/2 cups mini marshmallows
6 cups crispy rice cereal
mini tootsie rolls
candy for decorations, M&M’s, candy corn, etc.
- In a large saucepan, melt and slightly brown butter on medium heat. Add vanilla extract and marshmallows. Stir until marshmallows are completely melted. Add food coloring until desired orange color is reached. Add cereal and stir until completely combined. Turn off heat and let sit for a few minutes, until cool enough to handle.
- When mixture has cooled enough, spray your hands with cooking spray and mold cereal mix into circles. (I made nine medium sized pumpkins). Unwrap a tootsie roll and press into each pumpkin top. Add candy for the eyes and noses (we used a little frosting to adhere). Eat and enjoy!
