Montessori education begins at birthÂ
Why enroll your child in Montessori infant and toddler daycare? It builds confidence and self-esteem. The Montessori philosophy respects even the youngest children as individuals. Children have freedom to develop their skills at their own pace. Furthermore we validate each one as important members of the community.
Learning happens everywhere and all the time for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Your child’s experiences in these early years lay the foundation for her learning in later years. Children learn through everyday play and exploration in a safe and stimulating environment, like that found in our Montessori Infant and Toddler daycare program.
Children’s relationships
Your child’s relationships with you, other family members and carers are the foundation for your child’s healthy learning and development. Lots of time spent playing, talking, listening and interacting with these people helps your child learn the skills he needs for life, like communicating, thinking, problem-solving, moving and being with other people and children.
Actively engaging in the environment
Your child learns best by actively engaging with her environment. This includes:
- observing things, watching faces and responding to voices
- listening to sounds, making sounds and singing
- exploring – for example, putting things in her mouth, shaking things and turning things around
- asking questions – for example, ‘But why?’
- experimenting with textures, objects and materials like water, sand or dirt
- doing things that stimulate all of her senses – touch, taste, smell, vision and hearing.
Being involved in learning
Your child also learns by being involved in his learning. This could be as simple as:
- choosing books to read
- pointing to pictures in books
- choosing objects and toys to play with
- picking out vegetables for dinner
- measuring out flour for muffins.
If your child has the opportunity to try lots of different activities, it gives her lots of ways to learn and chances to practise what she’s learning. For example, it’s important for your child to have activities that are inside and outside, physically active or quiet, free play or more structured, and so on.
What sets Global Montessori programs apart
We are proud to share with you that we were the first Montessori Infant and Toddler Daycare Program in Western Canada. Today there are still only a handful of them in the region.
We embrace the Montessori philosophy of bringing the environment to the child. Therefore, you will not see cribs or highchairs, but rather child sized chairs and nap mats, that the child can access themselves.
To truly see how our wonderful Montessori Infant and Toddler daycare program works, we welcome you to set up a time to tour our facility. This will allow you to step into a classroom. Contact us today to schedule a tour, or to ask any questions about our programs.
